Nature

Rugged mountains and tropical forests

Samoa’s lush vegetation and rugged summits provides much to explore during your island getaway. A combination of the tropical climate and fertile soil allows flora and fauna to thrive. These untouched landscapes coupled with native wildlife, provides the perfect backdrop for visitors looking to explore the Samoan islands.

One of the most notable rainforests is the O Le Pupu-Pue National Park on Upolu, which from an aerial view, can be seen stretching from the south coast all the way up to to the rugged interior of the island. For bird watchers and wilderness explorers, this is a must see site.

Another rainforest to note is the low-lying Falealupo Rainforest Reserve on the island of Savaii. One of the highlights for this rainforest is a treetop canopy walk that is located 40 meters above ground. Held up by the strong arms of banyan trees, the elevated walkway allows visitors to appreciate the history that the trees have seen unfold and also gauge the vastness of the rainforest once standing above the canopy overlook.

Coral atolls and marine life

The crystal clear waters of Samoa are brimming with tropical fish and impressive coral atolls. After many cyclones have ravaged the reef and coastline, Samoa’s marine life has returned to its natural conditions before the storm. Thriving marine life and vibrant colours have been restored to nearby reefs, and travellers will enjoy snorkelling and diving in the warm Pacific Ocean.

For professional and hobbyist anglers, Samoa is perhaps your perfect Pacific destination. The surrounding reefs are an underwater playground for some of the best game fish. These include the likes of albacore, dolphin fish (mahi mahi), marlin barracuda, yellow-fin tuna and much more. Local fishing operators and charters offer a variety of day tours and diving experiences to match your needs.
When you combine the brimming marine life with a host of underwater and coastline activities, you will find yourself immersed in a truly laid back atmosphere engaging with an island way of life that is inextricably linked to the ocean.
